Some of the best first foods are the simplest ones, and this purée is proof. Sweet potato brings its cozy, familiar sweetness, while bell pepper adds a bright, slightly fruity note baby won't expect. Just two ingredients, one Babycook, and a few minutes stand between you and a bowl baby will happily finish.
Watch how it's done in the video below, then let's get blending. 👇
Ingredients
(Makes about 1 cup / 4–5 servings)
- 1 small sweet potato (about 200 g), peeled and diced
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
- Water, breast milk, or formula, to thin as needed
How to Make
- Peel and dice the sweet potato, then seed and dice the bell pepper into small, even pieces.
- Steam both together for 15–18 minutes, until very tender and easily pierced with a fork.
- Transfer to a blender (or use an immersion blender), adding a splash of water, breast milk, or formula.
- Blend until silky smooth, adjusting the liquid until you reach the right consistency for baby's stage.
- Cool completely before serving to baby.
Sweet potato is rich in beta-carotene (which baby converts to vitamin A), plus potassium and fiber to support healthy digestion. Red bell pepper punches above its weight in vitamin C — even more per gram than an orange — and that vitamin C helps baby's body absorb iron more efficiently, making this a smart little pairing for any iron-rich meal.
As always, introduce new foods one at a time and watch for any reactions, and check with your pediatrician about timing and any known allergies before serving.
